MARES stands for "Malaysian Amateur Radio Emergency Service Society", a
non-profit, non-government organisation located in Petaling Jaya,
Selangor, Malaysia. MARES members consists of amateur radio
enthusiast, who volunteered to be ready at ready to provide
communication
service in time of Disaster, when normal communication channels are
either down or congested.
International
Lighthouse/Lightship Weekend, will be held on 16 and 17th August 2008,
through out the world. The International Lighthouse/Lightship
Weekend came into being from the Scottish
Northern Lighthouses award

the past 10 years it has grown to over 380 lighthouses in some 51
countries around the world participating in the event. Next year the
event will be held on 15th-16th August 2009.
The event is always held on the 3rd full
weekend in August starting at
0001 UTC on Saturday and finishing at 2359 UTC on Sunday. It also now
coincides on the Sunday with the International Lighthouse Day which is
an event organised by the
International Association of Lighthouse Keepers whereby as
many world lighthouses will be open to the public for the day.
For the
first time in Malaysia, MARES is proud to become the first Malaysian participant
in
ILLW event, which will be held at Rumah Api Tanjung Tuan (Cape
Recardo Lighthouse), Melaka
All ham radio members are welcome to join
this event. However,
due to space constraint, participants are advice to contact us for
accommodation. Camping is allowed. Details for event are as follows:
